My Strength, and My Redeemer

Psalm 19:14 NKJV

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

In the verses leading up to the fourteenth verse, the Psalmist has been reflecting on God's law. Through this careful reflection, he has bared his soul, and with a repentant heart before God, he pleaded for forgiveness, even down to the secret faults that he'd committed. These actually could have included sins he wasn't even unaware of.

David's heart is now turned toward God for sustaining help. Understanding that he's completely unable to resist sinful desire on his own, he requests help from God in doing so.

Here, we witness David opening his empty hands and making a request to God that the words which come from his mouth through this psalm and pondering of his heart be acceptable to Him.

He closes with the acknowledgement that God is both His strength and Redeemer. God is the one who will keep him from sin, and ultimately save him from the penalty of it.

David understood that there was no goodness in himself at all, so he continually looked to God for his salvation. Who do you look to friend? Do you say, "I just need to try harder?" or do you say, "God forgive my sin, I trust that you will keep me from temptation, give me strength, and deliverance from sin's dominion. I am confident that you will redeem me for Your name sake." Christ is the only Redeemer we have. Like the Psalmist, look to Him for salvation today.
