They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

He may have been talking about the plight of Israel as a whole. All through the four gospels we read of the murmurings and murderous intentions of the Sadducee’s and Pharisees. They were power hungry and feared the consequences of crossing powerful men than they did the wages of crossing God.
