You prepare a table before me

Psalms 23:5 NKJV

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

David is expressing an overwhelming and glorious invite. God isn't caught off guard by David's place at His table, but rather beforehand has prepared a special place for him. The picture of luxury and enjoyment in safely dining in the presence of his enemies is yet another picture of security that we have in the Gospel. Though our enemies be around us, we have been set free from all their snares and traps (2 Timothy 2:26).

Anointing one's head shows special favor. We as believers have joined a table that is uniquely prepared for us. We have place holders with our name set at our spot, reserving it for our arrival. Then the King Himself will anoint our heads with oil signifying our honored entrance. What an amazing picture!
