Happy is He Who Keeps the Law
Proverbs 29:18 NKJV
Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.
When people don't have clear instruction from the word of God restraint is cast off, they run amuck and are destroyed. There is nothing to steer the sheep back onto the path; no law, and sadly no gospel to restore order. It's painful to see much of this going on in church culture today, where God's word has been mostly replaced with mans philosophies.
For those who keep the law their lives are filled with joy. Knowing that we are already violators of God's law, and therefore never be able to be law keepers, we trust in the One who kept the law perfectly for us. He suffered in our place, paid our debt, then gave us everything that pertains to life and godliness. Yes, when we trust in Jesus alone for salvation we are seen as law keepers. All our transgressions have been removed. As David writes in Psalm 32:1-2, "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit." Those who trust in Jesus have their debt covered, it's been taken care of. What Joy!
