And God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters."

1. There are Waters on Earth as well as in Heaven. Sky is the Firmament(expanse) that separates both.
Psalm 148:4 Praise Him, you heaven of heavens and you waters above the heavens!
2. Hebrew word for “heavens” is shamayim, it is in a plural form, meaning “heights,” “elevations.
