The devil deceives us by making us doubt our identity. Matt: he dangles Jesus' identity as the son of God in his face. "If you are the Son of God, turn these stones into bread" He tries to make Jesus doubt his identity as the Son of God, in order to make Jesus doubt God. Perhaps, he's asking Jesus to prove his worth by a showcase of power. Jesus overcomes the words that may induce doubt with the word of God. This is what we must do. Jesus knows he does not need to do anything, He already is God's Son. The devil makes Eve question/mistake her own identity. The devil says she will be like God. However, she is already made in the image of God (ie like God) The devil tries to make others depend on their own works rather than on God.
