This beginning is a beginning that is not a beginning for God; but is that beginning for the material universe and mankind; that beginning of eternity past; which in the deeper reality transcends all time as we know it; it is the realm of the eternals. Indeed, the Godhead is eternal; and therefore this verse is telling us that the Son was from the beginning of the creation. Not only so, but it goes on to say that the creation was made through and by him.
