And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

Wormwood (Artemisia vulgaris) is a bitter herb. Chernobyl is the Ukrainian word for wormwood. The name Chernobyl has become synonymous with radioactive disaster. Perhaps this verse is alluding to radioactive fallout somehow.
