Chapter 12
1
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Compare " ...a time of trouble, such as never was..." to Matthew 24:21 "...be great tribulation, such as was not..." So, Daniel is referring to Matthew's 'great tribulation.'
Also, compare "...at that time shall Michael stand up..." to Revelation 12:7, "Michael and his angels fought against the dragon..." So, this is Satan making war with the saints through the Antichrist during the great tribulation, just before they're raptured.
From heaven's perspective, Michael fighting Satan and casting him to earth is what initiates the great tribulation. From earth's perspective, the abomination of desolation is what initiates the Great tribulation as in Matthew 24:15 and Daniel 9:27.
