And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

Revelation 9:2, "And he opened the bottomless pit..." There's no mention of it closing until Revelation 20:3, "And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up..." Here we get "And the temple of God was opened in heaven..." So, the bottomless pit is opened, the temple of God is opened and earth is in between.
