And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Two reasons why the MORTAL "man of sin" needs to be "taken out of the way" in the previous verse. 1) The Antichrist will reign over the entire world for 42 months. He needs a place to stay. 2) The whole world needs to marvel at his 'resurrection' and worship him before they'll give him absolute power. At that point, even atheists will believe him.
