For they were in three stories, but had not pillars as the pillars of the courts: therefore the building was straitened more than the lowest and the middlemost from the ground.

Is this a typo or was it really written this way?
Someone brought to my attention this same usage in Matthew 7:13-14 where this spelling was used. The only significance I am aware of is that this word means a waterway where ships travel in only one direction.
