For the Egyptians buried all their firstborn, which the LORD had smitten among them: upon their gods also the LORD executed judgments.

These "gods" and the practices of those who followed them were unspeakably evil. In fact, I strongly believe that those deities they worshipped were actually demons. The practices and customs of them were undeniably demonic. They were a direct contradiction to all God had shown and taught the people of Israel to this point.
