Going further, after checking online... I was on the right track about idolatry. The tower was made of man made material, brick & tar. It was not made by material God created stone & cement. In addition, He saw the people's intent, but understood humans have the ability to do both good & evil when united. To prevent such a union for being used in an evil manner, He destroyed the tower, scattered the people, and confused their language so they could not understand each other. I at first did not understand God's intention, but after reading several times, His intentions was to protect us.
