Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and all our goods.

The main purpose of a fast is to humble yourself before the mighty hand of God...also, it is the best idea to commit your plans and ways to the Lord God Almighty, who graciously grants favor and grace to bring about success.
