Then the king gave orders to call in the amagicians, the conjurers, the sorcerers and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.

Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in aAramaic: "bO king, live forever! cTell the dream to your servants, and we will declare the interpretation."

The king replied to the Chaldeans, "The command from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you will be atorn limb from limb and your houses will be made a rubbish heap.

The Chaldeans answered the king and said, "There is not a man on earth who could declare the matter for the king, inasmuch as no great king or ruler has ever asked anything like this of any amagician, conjurer or Chaldean.

The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Any man who can read this inscription and explain its interpretation to me shall be bclothed with purple and have a cnecklace of gold around his neck, and have authority as dthird ruler in the kingdom."

"There is a aman in your kingdom in whom is a bspirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father, illumination, insight and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him. And King Nebuchadnezzar, your father, your father cthe king, appointed him chief of the magicians, conjurers, Chaldeans and diviners.
