Mark 8:1 References

1 In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat, aJesus called His disciples and said to them,

a Matthew 15:32-39, Mark 6:34-44


Matthew 15

32 aAnd Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, "bI feel compassion for the people, because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way."
33 The disciples said to Him, "Where would we get so many loaves in this desolate place to satisfy such a large crowd?"
34 And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven, and a few small fish."
35 And He directed the people to sit down on the ground;
36 and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and agiving thanks, He broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
37 And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, seven large abaskets full.
38 And those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.
39 And sending away the crowds, Jesus got into athe boat and came to the region of bMagadan.

Mark 6

34 When Jesus went ashore, He asaw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because bthey were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.
35 When it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said, "This place is desolate and it is already quite late;
36 send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat."
37 But He answered them, "You give them something to eat!" aAnd they said to Him, "Shall we go and spend two hundred bdenarii on bread and give them something to eat?"
38 And He said to them, "How many loaves do you have? Go look!" And when they found out, they said, "Five, and two fish."
39 And He commanded them all to sit down by groups on the green grass.
40 They sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties.
41 And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He ablessed the food and broke the loaves and He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them; and He divided up the two fish among them all.
42 They all ate and were satisfied,
43 and they picked up twelve full abaskets of the broken pieces, and also of the fish.
44 There were afive thousand men who ate the loaves.
