Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing according to selfish ambition or according to empty conceit, but in humility considering one another better than yourselves, 4 each of you not looking out for ⌊your own interests⌋, but also each of you for ⌊the interests⌋ of others. Verse 4 does not exclude alcoholics nor addicts from "others". No it clearly states that we are to look out for the interests of others before our own. Consider that God wants each of us to seek Him first as our Higher Power through our relationship with Christ Jesus. He wants the alcoholic to come to Him for help with the problem of alcoholism. God knows what the alcoholic needs. If I , with my need to control, try to interfere in the life of another person because I have that need to try to fix everything myself then I am placing my need before the need of the alcoholic to seek God for help. I would not be placing another's interests ahead of my own, I would be putting my own selfish desires first. …Expand
