When Lord spoke to Abram (gave him promises), he worships. When we read Bible, it should lead us to worship.

Obedience to the first command to Go forth is followed by three divine promises ("I will" statements). Make you a great nation - fulfilled in the nation of Israel which has endured even to our day! Included in ths blessing was the land (Ge 12:7). Bless you - Abram experienced temporal blessing (even when he did not deserve it - Ge 12:16) and spiritual well-being ("The friend of God" -Jas 2:23+). Make your name great - Jews, Christians, and Moslems all look to Abraham as the father of their faith. Expand

God's call to a life of separation. It marks the turning point in God's story of Redemption, for beginning in Genesis 12 we see God choose a man (Abram) and then a nation (Israel) from which will come the Redeemer of the world. His father Terah served other gods (Josh 24:2) Expand

David waits and asks of the Lord - we learn that waiting may be what the LORD is calling us to do so that in His time, by His power and for His glory He might bring about the accomplishment of His will. It is difficult for us "doers" to sit still and hear words like "Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Ps 46:10+). And yet waiting may be the most "productive" thing we can do, for Isaiah writes "Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength (EXCHANGE THEIR "STRENGTH" FOR HIS STRENGTH!); They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.." (Isaiah 40:31+). Expand

Ro 8:30+ speaks of believers as are already (past-tense) "glorified," so certain is our future glorification. But there is a present glory that is His to be had. Paul writes now as we "we all, with unveiled face, (are) beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord (especially in the Word of God), (we) are being (continually) transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit." (2Cor 3:18+) Expand

vs 3-6: Though his enemies are as in the earlier verses, immediately David declares his confidence and trust in the Lord. 3-Our Lord is the shield in our spiritual battles. (Eph 6:16 - shield of faith) (Gen 15:1- I am your shield) My glory speaks of his possession and his source of glory. Ro 8:30+ speaks of believers as are already (past-tense) "glorified," so certain is our future glorification. But there is a present glory that is His to be had. Paul writes now as we "we all, with unveiled face, (are) beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord (especially in the Word of God), (we) are being (continually) transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit."
