But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last ayou have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity.Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be acontent in whatever circumstances I am.I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going ahungry, both of having abundance and bsuffering need.I can do all things through Him who astrengthens me.Nevertheless, you have done well to ashare with me in my affliction.You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the afirst preaching of the gospel, after I left bMacedonia, no church cshared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone;for even in aThessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs.aNot that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account.But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from aEpaphroditus what you have sent, ba fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.And amy God will supply all your needs according to His briches in glory in Christ Jesus.Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I along to see, my joy and crown, in this way bstand firm in the Lord, my beloved.Now to aour God and Father bbe the glory forever and ever. Amen.Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. aThe brethren who are with me greet you.aAll the bsaints greet you, especially those of Caesar's household.aThe grace of the Lord Jesus Christ bbe with your spirit.I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to alive in harmony in the Lord.Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my afellow workers, whose bnames are in the book of life.aRejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. aThe Lord is near.aBe anxious for nothing, but in everything by bprayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.And athe peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will bguard your hearts and your cminds in dChrist Jesus.Finally, brethren, awhatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.The things you have learned and received and heard and seen ain me, practice these things, and bthe God of peace will be with you.

highlighted Acts 16:1-40 NASB

When he had seen athe vision, immediately bwe sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to cpreach the gospel to them.So putting out to sea from aTroas, we ran ba straight course to Samothrace, and on the day following to Neapolis;and from there to aPhilippi, which is a leading city of the district of bMacedonia, ca Roman colony; and we were staying in this city for some days.And on athe Sabbath day we went outside the gate to a riverside, where we were supposing that there would be a place of prayer; and we sat down and began speaking to the women who had assembled.A woman named Lydia, from the city of aThyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, ba worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord copened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul.And when she and aher household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay." And she prevailed upon us.It happened that as we were going to athe place of prayer, a slave-girl having ba spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling.Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, "These men are bond-servants of athe Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation."She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, "I command you ain the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!" And it came out at that very moment.But when her masters saw that their hope of aprofit was gone, they seized bPaul and Silas and cdragged them into the market place before the authorities,Paul came also to aDerbe and to aLystra. And a disciple was there, named bTimothy, the son of a cJewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek,and when they had brought them to the chief magistrates, they said, "These men are throwing our city into confusion, being Jews,and aare proclaiming customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being bRomans."The crowd rose up together against them, and the chief magistrates tore their robes off them and proceeded to order them to be abeaten with rods.When they had struck them with many blows, they threw them into prison, commanding athe jailer to guard them securely;and he, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in athe stocks.But about midnight aPaul and Silas were praying and bsinging hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them;and suddenly athere came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately ball the doors were opened and everyone's cchains were unfastened.When athe jailer awoke and saw the prison doors opened, he drew his sword and was about bto kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.But Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!"And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before aPaul and Silas,and he was well spoken of by athe brethren who were in bLystra and cIconium.and after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, awhat must I do to be saved?"They said, "aBelieve in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and byour household."And they spoke the word of the Lord to him together with all who were in his house.And he took them athat very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and all his household.And he brought them into his house and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, having believed in God with ahis whole household.Now when day came, the chief magistrates sent their policemen, saying, "Release those men."And athe jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, "The chief magistrates have sent to release you. Therefore come out now and go bin peace."But Paul said to them, "They have beaten us in public without trial, amen who are Romans, and have thrown us into prison; and now are they sending us away secretly? No indeed! But let them come themselves and bring us out."The policemen reported these words to the chief magistrates. aThey were afraid when they heard that they were Romans,and they came and appealed to them, and when they had brought them out, they kept begging them ato leave the city.Paul wanted this man to go with him; and he atook him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.They went out of the prison and entered the house of aLydia, and when they saw bthe brethren, they encouraged them and departed.Now while they were passing through the cities, they were delivering athe decrees which had been decided upon by bthe apostles and celders who were in Jerusalem, for them to observe.So athe churches were being strengthened in the faith, and were bincreasing in number daily.They passed through the aPhrygian and bGalatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in cAsia;and after they came to aMysia, they were trying to go into bBithynia, and the cSpirit of Jesus did not permit them;and passing by aMysia, they came down to bTroas.aA vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of bMacedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."

always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.So death is at work in us, but life in you.Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, "I believed, and so I spoke," we also believe, and so we also speak,knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart.But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God.And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;

A Psalm for giving thanks. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water. Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well.Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind,but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.
