Then Nebuchadnezzar in arage and anger gave orders to bring Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego; then these men were brought before the king.Nebuchadnezzar responded and said to them, "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, that you do not serve amy gods or worship the golden image that I have set up?"Now if you are ready, aat the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery and bagpipe and all kinds of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, very well. But if you do not worship, you will immediately be bcast into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire; and cwhat god is there who can deliver you out of my hands?"aShadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter."If it be so, our aGod whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and bHe will deliver us out of your hand, O king."aBut even if He does not, blet it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with awrath, and his facial expression was altered toward Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. He answered by giving orders to heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.He commanded certain valiant warriors who were in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego in order to cast them into the furnace of blazing fire.Then these men were tied up in their atrousers, their coats, their caps and their other clothes, and were cast into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire.For this reason, because the king's command was aurgent and the furnace had been made extremely hot, the flame of the fire slew those men who carried up Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego.

"You, O king, have amade a decree that every man who hears the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery, and bagpipe and all kinds of music, is to bfall down and worship the golden image."But whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire."There are certain Jews whom you have aappointed over the administration of the province of Babylon, namely Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. These men, O king, have disregarded you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.""But whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be acast into the midst of a bfurnace of blazing fire."Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery, bagpipe and all kinds of music, all the peoples, nations and men of every language fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.For this reason at that time certain aChaldeans came forward and bbrought charges against the Jews.They responded and said to Nebuchadnezzar the king: "aO king, live forever!

what do you think?" They answered, "aHe deserves death!"aThen they bspat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him,and said, "aProphesy to us, You Christ; who is the one who hit You?"aNow Peter was sitting outside in the bcourtyard, and a servant-girl came to him and said, "You too were with Jesus the Galilean."But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about."When he had gone out to the gateway, another servant-girl saw him and said to those who were there, "This man was with Jesus of Nazareth."And again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man."A little later the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Surely you too are one of them; afor even the way you talk gives you away."Then he began to curse and swear, "I do not know the man!" And immediately a rooster crowed.And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, "aBefore a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.

aThose who had seized Jesus led Him away to bCaiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together.But aPeter was following Him at a distance as far as the bcourtyard of the high priest, and entered in, and sat down with the cofficers to see the outcome.Now the chief priests and the whole aCouncil kept trying to obtain false testimony against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death.They did not find any, even though many false witnesses came forward. But later on atwo came forward,and said, "This man stated, 'aI am able to destroy the temple of God and to rebuild it in three days.'"The high priest stood up and said to Him, "Do You not answer? What is it that these men are testifying against You?"But aJesus kept silent. bAnd the high priest said to Him, "I cadjure You by dthe living God, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, ethe Son of God."Jesus said to him, "aYou have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you will see bTHE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and cCOMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN."Then the high priest atore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have now heard the blasphemy;

Now aa mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one.Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? aMay it never be! For bif a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.But the Scripture has ashut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, abeing shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.Therefore the Law has become our atutor to lead us to Christ, so that bwe may be justified by faith.But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a atutor.For you are all asons of God through faith in bChrist Jesus.
