The tree of life provided immortality. It was a gift from God in the garden to his creation. They were allowed to eat from it until they disobeyed. They / mankind were then separated from it. The rest of the biblical theme is redeeming mankind to a relationship with God and eternal life. Expand

Adam continues to not take responsibility. PASSIVE - not being a man! When we do wrong we must own up to it!

Note that Adam was there and went along with it. Adam chose not to lead that day. He was passive. By not taking a stand, he did not protect his wife. Contrast this to the "second Adam", Jesus, who took a stand and put others first. Jesus led by example. Expand

It seems that if we as Gentiles did not dismiss our Jewish roots, we would continued to "keep the Sabbath" which would have meant a celebration Friday night with family and friends and relaxing until Saturday sundown to include worship, a time of reflection and thanksgiving, and more time with family and friends. However, we certainly can agree today God demonstrated a 6 day work week! (not 5) Expand

Day-age theory continued: The other similar example of Christians being tempted to be accepted by modern day secular scholars is REPLACEMENT THEOLOGY. Bottom line: Israel was not a nation for so long, it appeared the Bible was wrong in it's prediction, and they came up with the idea that the Christian church had replaced Israel. Oops! You would look so ridiculous today if you held that view. Israel not only became a nation in 1948, but it has prospered a lot and just as the Bible predicted, Jews have been coming back into the land in a big way ever since. Just in the 90's over a million came from Russia. Stick with the Bible! It's always right! Expand

Disputing the day-age theory: Adam was created as an adult, so it's likely the universe was created in an adult stage too (look at its rate of expansion). By the way, Jews measure time based on start of Creation (not from time of Christ), and they are definite that in 2014 AD there have been just less than 5800 years of history. Expand

Since Darwin, there have been Christians who attempted to interpret each day as an age. I think this came mainly from the pressure of wanting to be accepted by the world of science. The best reason for interpreting Creation as literal days is that the people (Rabbi's) who know and study the original text best all agree they are literal days. The Talmud was complete in 5 A.D., which was the code of Jewish oral tradition interpreting the Torah or first 5 books of the Old Testament. If there would have been any hint that these words referred to an 'age', these meticulous people would have picked up on it. Expand

The Hebrew word for God in this verse and in Genesis 1:1 is ELOHIM, which is the plural form of EL. However, even though it's plural, it is used with singular verbs and adjectives. This aligns itself with the description of Jesus in John 1: "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God.... and dwelt among us." In time, Christians came to call this concept the TRINIITY: God is 3 persons, but 1 God. Expand

God's ordained way to count a day started with the evening (after sunset), not morning. This seems to be a reminder from God of His Creation which turned darkness into light, and practically speaking, a reminder that in life darkness always comes before light. Expand
