What kind of climate would the Promised Land have to be for the grape harvest to last til spring?

When it talks about killing an animal verses killing a person, there is a difference here that is not really clear in this translation. If a man "beats an animal to death" (I think it implies another person's animal - correct me if I am wrong) he must make restitution for it ("You killed Joe's prized sheep, so, Ben, you have to give him your prized sheep") of equal value. A person who purposely kills (beats to death) another person is another matter entirely. Again, this has to do with the imago dei that I've noted before. Human life is precious, thus, GOD requires that the murderer's life be taken in recompense for the life that they stole. … Expand

tn Heb “He shall not defile himself a husband in his peoples, to profane himself.” The meaning of the line is disputed, but it appears to prohibit a priest from burying any relative by marriage (as opposed to the blood relatives of vv. 2-3), including his wife (compare B. A. Levine, Leviticus [JPSTC], 142-43 with J. E. Hartley, Leviticus [WBC], 343, 348). [net.bible.org] … Expand

Mediums are those who commune with or to "seek advice" from the spirits of the dead (Net Bible hints at "dead relatives") and familiar (demonic spirits). Necromancers/necromancy deals with any and all forms of sorcery & witchcraft, divination, communication with the dead, etc. While these two are in the same category, necromancy seems to be the more severe, more heavily involved in demonic rituals. … Expand

This is an interesting phrase that GOD uses: "...I have made you like God to Pharaoh..." Almost seems as if GOD is telling Moses, "since Pharaoh will not believe in ME, I will use you as MY figurehead, so that he sees the difference between ME and his gods." It makes me think of people today, who need to see, hear, touch, etc in person before they believe in something. GOD uses a corporal figurehead of a god & his prophet (Moses & Aaron) to represent to Pharaoh the reality of the Deity of GOD & his prophet Moses. … Expand

reminiscent of JX calling the pharisees "White washed tombs"... the need is white-washed & painted over with fine words and ceremony; but the problem remains.

GOD reinforces the fact of imago dei, that man is made in the image of GOD, thus is an important and unique part of His creation. To destroy this creation - I would think, at any stage of its life - carries a strict penalty. … Expand

(thought continued from verse 11) whatever happened during that week of "waiting", the door of the ark was open. I wonder if Noah spent that time trying to convince his neighbors that the judgement of GOD was coming: "...see all the animals? I wasn't the one who gathered them up and brought them here; GOD did..." … Expand

I find it interesting that the Bible gives an exact time when the flood began. Not only that, but that, after all the animals & Noah's family had entered the ark, it states that there was a week (seven days) before the flood actually began. What was going on inside the ark during that time? What was going on OUTSIDE the ark, for that matter? … Expand
