":...give a light to him and to his sons forever." Could this have been a foretelling of Jesus?

This may have been a foretelling of the birth of Christ. Always pay special attention to scriptures which point to a future descendant of King David or the Tribe of Judah.

This is seems a bit familiar. Remember Lot and his situation with the men who approached his house when the two angels arrived?

Joshua 23:12-13 This may have been a type of foretelling of what happened eventually after the crucifixion of Christ. One of the those nations, Rome became a mighty empire and eventually did drive them out of the land in 70AD.\ Expand

Deuteronomy 28:49-53 This might have been a prophecy of what hit Jerusalem as a result of the many years and incidents of God's people rebelling against Him. The siege of Jerusalem in 70AD is believed to be God's judgement against Jerusalem for all of the prophets the people had slain and the final last straw was the crucifixion of Christ. The description God gives in this passage is exactly what happened. People were cannibalizing their own children and eating their own excrement from starvation. Expand

This isn't the first time the penalty for kidnapping and slavery was put into writing. Exodus 21:16 says this also, just not in as specific terms. This refers to the "children of Israel". Expand

For a long time now, I've wondered what exactly does this mean and does it apply today. What did God mean by pollute? Does shedding blood literally pollute our environment or did he mean it in a spiritual sense? It sounds as if the only way to make things right or to prevent the "pollution" is to shed the blood of the people who commit murder. Expand

Nothing's new under the sun. We had an unrighteous leader creating a law or policy legalizing and justifying the slaying of a baby. Question is; Do we still have men or women of the caliber it took to defy this unrighteous leader and do otherwise? Expand

Beautiful!!! The first expression of the concept of marriage we see here with this passage. It seems that man will never be complete because a woman came from a man here in these verses. It's no wonder that God later said in the New Testament to "love your wife as yourself,"...like you would you're own flesh. She literally is our own flesh. Expand

This was the second time he did this. He did this in Egypt too and the king kicked him out because of it. It looks like the lesson here is to trust God instead of our own devices or schemes, any other way and we just get a great big ol mess. We see the same with Sarah and her maidservant. Instead of just trusting in the Lord's promise to be fulfilled, they resorted to Abraham hooking up with the maidservant and as expected it lead to a whole bunch of drama. Sarah started to treat Hagar harshly and she fled. Expand
