This isn't the first time the penalty for kidnapping and slavery was put into writing. Exodus 21:16 says this also, just not in as specific terms. This refers to the "children of Israel". Expand

For a long time now, I've wondered what exactly does this mean and does it apply today. What did God mean by pollute? Does shedding blood literally pollute our environment or did he mean it in a spiritual sense? It sounds as if the only way to make things right or to prevent the "pollution" is to shed the blood of the people who commit murder. Expand

Nothing's new under the sun. We had an unrighteous leader creating a law or policy legalizing and justifying the slaying of a baby. Question is; Do we still have men or women of the caliber it took to defy this unrighteous leader and do otherwise? Expand

Beautiful!!! The first expression of the concept of marriage we see here with this passage. It seems that man will never be complete because a woman came from a man here in these verses. This was the second time he did this. He did this in Egypt too and the king kicked him out because of it. It looks like the lesson here is to trust God instead of our own devices or schemes, any other way and we just get a great big ol mess. We see the same with Sarah and her maidservant. Instead of just trusting in the Lord's promise to be fulfilled, they resorted to Abraham hooking up with the maidservant and as expected it lead to a whole bunch of drama. Sarah started to treat Hagar harshly and she fled. Expand
