They seem more concerned that they can no longer sell their stuff than that Babylon has been utterly destroyed. No mention that it's too bad for all those people.

Babylon here is the last world empire, the United States. "A destroying wind" could refer to the winds from nuclear blasts that cause great destruction. See Revelation 18 about the destruction of Babylon by fire. Expand

SJR

wrote a note on Jeremiah 50:9 KJV

In the end times, the United States is Babylon. This might be describing the destruction of the United States by means of ICBMs coming over the north pole, which is the route they would take to get here. Revelation 18 describes the destruction of Babylon, by fire, in one hour. Expand

Verses 12 and 13 describe the beast coming to power over the whole world, not just one nation. This happens shortly after he rises from the dead in Revelation 17:8.

SJR

wrote a note on Revelation 17:10 KJV

I've seen many interpretations of this verse. But, "he must continue a short space" might be referring to the person who takes over after the beast is killed but before he returns to life a few days later. Hard to tell. Expand

SJR

wrote a note on Revelation 17:8 KJV

"Is not" means dead. So, this verse is saying that the beast was alive, then died, then came back to life. "They that dwell on the earth shall wonder" alludes to something big enough to cause people the world over to stop and wonder. So, this isn't going to be some smaller event that not everybody would even care about or some event that's up to different interpretations, etc. Expand

SJR

wrote a note on Revelation 17:1 KJV

"Sitteth upon many waters" is defined in verse 15: "The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues." This makes the great whore a world wide group of people, apostate Christianity. Contrast this with Revelation 19:7-8 and Revelation 21:9-10 about the bride of Christ. Expand
