I've seen many interpretations of this verse. But, "he must continue a short space" might be referring to the person who takes over after the beast is killed but before he returns to life a few days later. Hard to tell. … Expand

"Is not" means dead. So, this verse is saying that the beast was alive, then died, then came back to life. "They that dwell on the earth shall wonder" alludes to something big enough to cause people the world over to stop and wonder. So, this isn't going to be some smaller event that not everybody would even care about or some event that's up to different interpretations, etc. … Expand
