Compare " ...a time of trouble, such as never was..." to Matthew 24:21 "...be great tribulation, such as was not..." So, Daniel is referring to Matthew's 'great tribulation.' Also, compare "...at that time shall Michael stand up..." to Revelation 12:7, "Michael and his angels fought against the dragon..." So, this is Satan making war with the saints through the Antichrist during the great tribulation, just before they're raptured. From heaven's perspective, Michael fighting Satan and casting him to earth is what initiates the great tribulation. From earth's perspective, the abomination of desolation is what initiates the Great tribulation as in Matthew 24:15 and Daniel 9:27. … Expand

Some teach that Abaddon is Satan, which he's not. First of all, he has a completely different name. The word Abaddon means destruction and the word Satan means adversary. Second, Satan doesn't fall from heaven at the fifth trumpet. That comes earlier, before the tribulation. Third, this angel had the key to open the pit and let the locust out. But, in chapter 1 Jesus said that he had the keys of hell and of death. So, it would make the most sense that he would turn it over to one of his servants, not Satan. Then, in Revelation 20:1-3, the angel with the key casts Satan into the bottomless pit. Finally, Satan isn't a king of anything as this verse says. He's not going to rule in hell. … Expand

Perhaps a shower with numerous small meteors hits the earth and burns up the grass and trees. A larger meteor in the shower hits the ocean causing most of the sea life to die as well as causing earthquakes worldwide. The earthquakes would damage nuclear power plants which would release their waste into the atmosphere and pollute fresh water when it comes down as rain. The meteor strikes would also send massive amounts of dust and smoke into the upper atmosphere which would quickly span the globe and at least partially block out the sun and moon. All of this could explain the first four trumpet judgements and could all happen in one day with the aftermath spanning a few weeks. See the Revelation 8:1 note. … Expand

Wormwood (Artemisia vulgaris) is a bitter herb. Chernobyl is the Ukrainian word for wormwood. The name Chernobyl has become synonymous with radioactive disaster. Perhaps this verse is alluding to radioactive fallout somehow. … Expand

This is the point in Revelation that fulfills Luke 17:26-29, "And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the DAY that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same DAY that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all." At the sixth seal, "the great DAY of his wrath is come." So, the 144,000 are sealed, the elect are gathered, the seventh seal is opened and the trumpet judgments start - to parallel Noe and Lot. … Expand

"Before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders" is the same scene (FROM HEAVEN) that's detailed in Revelation 4 and 5. Furthermore, "no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth" indicates that the 144,000 are already in Heaven because that's where the singing is coming from and they're the only ones that can learn the song. … Expand

In Hebrews 12:22, mount Sion is called "the heavenly Jerusalem." That would place the 144,000 in Heaven at this point in the story.

Not only are these 144,000 explicitly "the tribes of the children of Israel" (Revelation 7:4), which no longer exist today, but they're also male virgins. If these verses are taken literally, then the 144,000 are old testament saints taken from the 12 tribes back when they existed. They died (as virgins) long ago and are now returning to earth. They're already in Heaven with seals in their foreheads before the rapture in verses 14,15 and before God's wrath is poured out in chapters 15 and 16. Also, they're the ones who preach the gospel to the world during God's wrath when the church has already been raptured. Meanwhile, the church is in Heaven getting itself ready to rule and reign with Christ during the millennium. … Expand

144,000 "of all the tribes of the children of Israel" has been understood to mean 144,000 "Jews" even though that's not what it says. The 12 tribes of the children of Israel were never called the "Jews." The word "Jew" was first used in 2 Kings 16:6 to refer to the two tribes of the southern kingdom, which were primarily from the tribe of Judah and were separate from the 10 tribes of the northern kingdom of Israel that had split off. Long story short, the northern kingdom became a mixed people called the "Samaritans." Longer story shorter, the 12 tribes of Israel simply don't exist today. So, who are these people? See Revelation 14:1-5, specifically the notes after verses 1, 3 and 5. … Expand

Concerning chronology, this verse is saying that the 5th trumpet comes after the 144,000 have been sealed in their foreheads. The 144,000 were sealed between the 6th and 7th seal. Furthermore, the 6th seal is after the tribulation (See Revelation 6:12). Therefore, the 5th trumpet must also come after the tribulation. The trumpet judgements are a part of God's wrath, not tribulation. See also Revelation 7:3. … Expand

See Revelation 9:4 about the reason for this seal as it pertains to the locust from hell, whatever those are. See Ezekiel 9:4 about the reason for the seal as it pertains to Ezekiel's vision of those in his day who were upset about the wickedness at that time. Also, this is obviously before God starts pouring out his wrath. … Expand
